I've been really busy lately getting ready for San Diego and working on a couple different projects, so I haven't had a lot of time to update the site. But inbetween things I've tried doing some real drawing, with real paper with real markers. It's crazy hard to draw without an undo button, especially the way I do it because I tend to make really big and rapid marks that are tough to control and often turn out nothing like I wanted. Most artists I know are able to make lots of light, sketchy marks and then clean it up later but I never figured out how to do that. Every time I try it seems to take all the life out of the sketch. So I just skip all that and try to get a "finished" drawing the first try, which is stressful but also kinda fascinating because it's so hard to control what the final drawing looks like. Most of the time it turns out terrible - I've done about 50 of these and the ones above are the only ones I liked. |

Just finished this piece for an upcoming book titled "Beasts!" coming out in October. It's all about monsters, the second most awesome thing in the world.
This is supposed to be kind of a mix between classic Toho monster movies and wacky beach party movies. |

For this month's Drawing Jam. This time the model was Shakira. The second I saw the photos, I knew I wanted to do a McGinnis-style mystery/romance cover. |
